Topic: The Periodic Table
Type of lesson: consolidation and revision
Grade: 7th (age level: 12- 13)
Aims:
Revising and consolidating the name and the symbol of the most important elements;
Revising and consolidating the utilisation of some elements;
Speaking, listening, writing and reading in English;
Practising the sounds of the English alphabet.
Materials needed:
A set of “HEAR and SAY” cards for each group;
Activity: “HEAR and SAY”
Preparation:
Make a set of “Hear and Say” cards for each group, using the name and symbol of most the important elements.
Procedure:
- Put the students into groups of five;
- Give each group a set of cards to share out;
- Write on the board any words you think your students may have a problem pronouncing;
- Check their pronunciation;
- Explain that when they hear one of the words in their “HEAR” column, they must say the word or symbol next to it in their “SAY” column;
- Ask the students to repeat the instruction in the mother tongue;
- The student who has the card with a word underlined in the SAY column, starts the activity;
- The activity finishes when the student gets to the word “END” in the “SAY” column.
